Virgie L. Smith Obituary

Virgie was born in Wright City, Missouri on May 27, 1930, to Charles and Lula Luckett. She was raised in Wright City and 1949 graduated from Franklin High School in St. Charles, Missouri.

On June 2, 1952, she entered the United States Air Force and was stationed at LG. Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts where she met and later married the love of her life, Kenneth Smith, on October 2, 1954.

To their union, seven children were born. Virgie left the Air Force, ".,.Because" she said, "I wanted to stay home with the children." She went on to be a dedicated matriarch who instilled a sense of strong work ethic and faith in God. The Smith Family, while serving in the Air Force, traveled to Alconbury, England; March AFB, CA; Izmir, Turkey; Vandenberg AFB, CA; and retired at March AFB, CA in 1976.

Virgie was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She is survived by her seven children: Virgie Smith II, Twila Smith, Keith Smith (Lynne), Charles Smith (Yvonne), Avery Smith (Honorai), Duane Smith (Denise), and Joy Smith; sister, Charlotte Miller; cousin, Johnetta Driscoll, 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virgie loved the Lord, her family, and her church. She was an active and faithful member of Allen Chapel AME Church, Riverside since the early 1960s. Virgie served in various organizations: Lay Organization, Women's Missionary Society, Class Leader, and Sunday School Teacher.

Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clifford Luckett, Edward Luckett, Charles Luckett, Joseph Luckett, and sisters Josephine Luckett, Ruth Weaver, Grace Flye, Luella Luckett, Georgian Amour, and Sadie White, and her beloved husband, Kenneth Smith, of 66 years.
