Sylvia Kay Lyons was born on September 1,1951, to the union of Aaron C. and Jessie Mae Barnes in Houston, Texas. In 1955,she moved to Los Angeles, California with her family while still a young child. Sylvia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at True Samaritan Baptist Church. Sylvia received a formal education in the Los Angeles Unified School District. After graduation from Manual Arts High School, she attended California State University Northridge and began building a successful career in banking and finance. Sylvia enjoyed the outdoors. She shared many joyous occasions going to the beach, bike riding, and camping with her family. She also had the most amazing green thumb.
On February 10,1979, Sylvia married the love her life and longtime companion, Earl Lyons Sr. Their union resulted in the blessing of a blended family. Together, they raised four children in Los Angeles. In 1987, they relocated to Moreno Valley, CA where Sylvia changed careers joining Amtrak National Railroad Corporation. In 2009, Sylvia became a widow. Five years later, she retired from Amtrak, to support her growing family and fulfill her role as “Grammy” (grandmother). Sylvia joined Crossword Christian Fellowship contributing her talent, time, and treasure through her giving and service to the bread of life senior committee.
Sylvia Kay Lyons transitioned into glory on Sunday, July 23, 2023. She is preceded in death by her mother, Jessie Mae Harris, father Aaron C, Barnes, Stepfather George Harris, and husband, Earl Lyons Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her two sisters, Lavinia Ann Jefferson and Kathryn Hamilton; her children (their spouses), Marcia (Aubrey), Mena (Richard), Brandi (Cardell), and Earl Lyons Jr (Cherish);grandchildren (their spouses) Brittany Brown, Carnisha Jones (Dorian), Branisha Williams (Clinton), Kevin Thompson, Breland Waggoner, Camille Brown, Chrysten Brown, CJ Harris Jr., Marcus Lyons (Karen),Earl M. Lyons Jr, Desean M. Lyons; great-grandchildren, Damoni Jones, Naomi Nix, Dacari Jones, Mo’ney Jones, Clinton Williams IV, Mariah Jones, Carson Williams, Aaliyah Lyons, Ella Lyons, and a host of nieces, nephews, and relatives.
Sylvia will be missed beyond measure, but her legacy will live on.
