Patricia Marie Houston

Patricia Marie Houston went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10th, 2025 at the age of 77. She was born on April 17th, 1948 to the late Thomas and Louise Yates in Mitchellville Maryland. Patricia was the fourth child of fourteen brothers and sisters. 

Patricia received her education in Maryland where she was raised. She later moved to Los Angeles where she met and married her husband, the late Roy Howard Houston. Together they became a family along with her daughter Wanda M. Yates from a previous union. The family grew, as her daughter Wanda gave birth to twin boys Derrick and DeRon Pugh. Patricia and her husband Roy dedicated their lives to rearing, supporting and cultivating a Christian home and lifestyle for the boys. The family regularly attended New Mount Calvary Baptist Church, where Patricia served on the Usher Board. Patricia faithfully attended church and looked forward to fellowshipping with her church family.

Patricia worked at Compton Unified School District for 39 years, where she served as a clerk. She was very passionate about serving and pouring into the lives of the people she worked with. She would always say how blessed she was to have a work family. She learned something new everyday and would come home and share it with her family. Patricia was truly a teacher at heart. Her dreams were to write a book and to teach young impressionable girls and boys the skills that would prepare them for life. Patricia retired from the school district in 2014. She used that very precious time to pour into her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and surround her family and friends with all the love our hearts could stand.

Patricia will be missed dearly by all she came in contact with. Though she is no longer with us, her love, wisdom, generosity, and vibrant spirit will fill our hearts forever more.

Patricia is survived by her daughter Wanda, her grandchildren Derrick Pugh & Wife Cheri Pugh, DeRon Pugh & Wife Shebriah Pugh, her great-grandchildren-Sahmairah, Zion, Zahleia, Emery, Siyari, Brayden, Shamayam, & Gianna. Her sisters- Elaine Kendrick, Shirley Hobbs, Velma Queen, & Tawanda Yates. Her brothers- Thomas Yates, Ivory Yates, Larry Yates, & Louis Yates. She is also survived by her nephew Kenny Kendrick & Kevin Kendrick & Wife Sharon Kendrick & a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, family & friends.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents Thomas & Louise Yates. Her husband Roy Howard Houston. Her sisters Geraldine Scott, Brenda Blake, & Sister-in-law Carla Yates. Her brothers Bobby Yates, George Yates, Micheal Yates, brother’s-in-law Charles Blake, Kevin Mc Cleod, and Kenny Kendrick.
