Michael (Mike) Darnell McDaniel
March 28, 1963 – February 21, 2025
Born on March 28, 1963, in Los Angeles, CA, Mike was the beloved son of Ruthetta (Ruthie) McGee of Los Angeles, CA, and Buddy-Rayford McDaniel of Texas, both of whom preceded him in death.
From an early age, Mike had a deep love for 70s and 80s police and detective TV shows — classics like Adam-12, CHiPs, Dragnet, Hawaii Five-0, Starsky & Hutch, and S.W.A.T. These shows sparked his admiration for law enforcement and ultimately inspired his career. Mike served with dedication and pride for over 25 years at the Hawthorne Police Department and the Los Angeles Unified School District before retiring early due to health reasons.
After retirement, Mike settled in San Bernardino County to be closer to his family. There, he continued to embrace the things he loved most — his family, his friends, and his passions. Mike had a true love for cars and was a proud and loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. He enjoyed BBQing outdoors, listening to music, and playing Spades and Dominoes — never missing a chance to add some lively (and legendary) trash talk to the game.
But above all, Mike loved his family and his faith. In 2004, he gave his life to the Lord, a decision that became the foundation of his life. He later became a devoted member of The Church of Obedience under the leadership of Pastor Debra Paul. His unwavering faith and kindness touched and inspired everyone who knew him.
With profound sadness, Mike was called home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by his three sons: Michael D. McDaniel II of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Marqwuis M. Jeffries-McDaniel of Las Vegas, NV; Malachi McDaniel of Palmdale, CA; and Tochi (Madison) Obinma, whom he loved as his own daughter. And his beloved grandson, Jerimiah Gordon Jeffries of Las Vegas, NV, gave Mike great joy.
He also leaves behind his siblings: Brenton Hagood of San Bernardino, CA; Mark Gabriel of New Braunfels, TX; Tyrone Harris of Victorville, CA; Shemaiah Walker of Adamsville, AL; Aristotle McDaniel of Moreno Valley, CA; and Tony McDaniel of Chino Hills, CA.
Mike’s memory will also be carried on by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Mike’s love, laughter, and kindness touched countless lives. His spirit, warmth, and faith will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be truly and deeply missed.
The family deeply appreciates your love, support, and prayers during this time of loss
