Matthew A. Romo Obituary

God knew that the world would never be the same the day that Matt took his first breath on June 26, 2001, in Arcadia, California. Carlos Romo and Viviana McDaniel were truly blessed the day he was born. Matt certainly knew how to make an entrance and his birth was no different.

Matt spent his elementary school years in Covina and High School in the Glendora vicinity.

Matt was raised in the Christian faith, and attended Jesus Es Amor Church from the very young age of 2 years old, there he made lifelong friendships which he cherished and kept very close to his heart.

From age 3 Matt was always involved in sports, it all started with him watching uncle Andrew bowl. Bowling was the first sport he formally played, but it would not be the last, he also did swimming, soccer, basketball football, track, baseball, karate, mud runs, and pretty much anything under the sun.

He did not just play sports, he was a team player, a leader, an athlete, and excelled at almost every sport he tried. He was a part of Kare Youth League as a child, where he made lifelong friendships, he also attended Calvary Baptist School and Edge Basketball Program where he met his coaches Scott, Virginia, Christian and Tylor.

Matt had the outmost respect for his coaches and always looked up to them and saw them as a sounding board, he took heed to their advice, and sought their guidance, they meant the world to him, and they went above and beyond the “coach role” with him and he loved them for that.

Matt was full of life, strong as a rock, but soft and kind as a teddy bear, he was protective of those whom he loved, he went out of his way to make people feel loved and included, he was a dependable friend, a jokester, prankster, and always had a 1000-watt smile on his face. Matt was full of personality, was hard to miss, and loved his family very much, especially is little sister Sabrina.

As an adult Matt was very proud of working at Air & Lube Systems where he put in practice construction skills he had learned at previous positions, and learned a specialized trade in the field of fleet maintenance equipment. Matt had ambitions of a higher education in Architecture which he intended to have compliment his background in construction.

Like everywhere he went, Matt made quite an impression at Air & Lube Systems, as he was dedicated, dependable, and a quick study. His leadership skills, loyalty, and team mentality really helped him excel and develop great relationships with co-workers and leadership.

Matt was an only child for quite a bit. After his parents’ divorce, his father married Heidi and they made Matt a big brother to his little sister Sabrina whom he loved dearly. His mother married Thomas, and made Matt a bonus big brother to his sisters Aniyah, Aleena and little brother Aidan whom he also loved. All of Matt’s siblings looked up to him as a big brother, protector, friend and sometimes even partner in crime. Heidi and Thomas loved Matt deeply.

Matt leaves behind legions of people touched by his loving heart, unconditional friendship, and love for people, plenty of hilarious “Matt Stories,” his birth parents Carlos & Viviana, his bonus parents Heidi and Thomas, his siblings Sabrina, Aniyah, Allena, and Aidan, his paternal grandparents James & Cecilia, and maternal grandparents Ruben & Gehessy, innumerable cousins, aunts, uncles, and a sea of friends.

Matt lived fully, and with few regrets, he was determined to enjoy every day God gave him on this earth, he lit up any room he walked into, he had a presence about him that is hard to describe, he had a way to bring light in the dark, and a God given gift to reach and touch people.

He now makes his presence in heaven, physically absent from us for now, and present with the Lord, his spirit will remain with us because he will live on in each and every one of our hearts.
