Harrison Gant

Harrison Gant was born April 23, 1939, in Shaw, Mississippi and was raised primarily in
Arkansas. He graduated from Dermott High School, Arkansas in 1958 and migrated to
Los Angeles, California soon after graduation, where he lived with his Aunt Eva
Boutillier, his mother’s sister.
Soon after arriving in Los Angeles he met Alma Weathersby. They were married in 1959
and to this union four children were born: Harrison, Kenneth, Robyn and Preston.
Harrison and Alma moved to Pomona, California in the early 1960s. Throughout the
years he held the position of Chef at Cedars Sinai Hospital, worked as an Insurance
Salesman, worked for the Department of Airports in various positions for thirty-five
years and during that time he also started his own janitorial service.
In the early 1980s Harrison and Alma respectfully parted ways.
Harrison received a calling to preach and was called into the ministry and held the post as
assistant Pastor at Goodwill C.O.G.I.C. in Pomona, CA where he met Mildred Morgan.
He proposed marriage to her and their initial plan was to fly to Europe and be married
there but once they arrived they were told they had be there for 14 days. Returning to
California they were immediately married at a chapel in San Bernardino, and just this
past July celebrated 23 years of marriage. They were married on July 9, 1997.
After settling in the Inland Empire Harrison retired from John Wayne/Orange County
Airport after 35 years of service. He rested for about a year, and then decided to look for
a part-time job to get out of the house. He joined the Morongo Casino family and worked
there for 16 years full time up until earlier this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Minnie Lou Gant and three siblings:
Willie Edward Gant, Louis Gant Jr. and Tommie Lee Gant.
He leaves to mourn:
His devoted and loving wife Mildred, Four sons and one daughter: Ernest Pierson (Lily
Marie); Harrison Ricarta Gant (Lisa); Robyn Rynette Gant, Kenneth James Gant (Tina)
and Preston Dorain Gant (Elena).
One step-daughter and two stepsons: Lanair Slaughter (Ross), Timothy Morgan
(Katrina), Richard Morgan (Ayesha).
13 natural grandchildren, 10 grandchildren by marriage,
25 natural great-grandchildren and 3 greatgrandchildren by marriage, many nieces,
nephews and cousins and a huge host of loving friends, neighbors and co-workers.
