Geraldine Gomes Obituary

Geraldine Vines Gomes, daughter of Mr. Ben Vines, Jr. and Mrs. Effie Gay Vines, who preceded her in death was born on March 4, 1939, in Farmville, North Carolina.  After a short illness, Geraldine entered the arms of the Lord peacefully at home on October 22, 2024.

Affectionately known as Dean, called by family; Dino, called by loved ones; GlamourDean, named by her granddaughter Regena was born and raised in North Carolina.  Geraldine was the youngest of eleven children.  She was extremely family-oriented and loved telling stories about her childhood.  After graduating from high school, she decided to move to Connecticut.  During her years in Connecticut, she spent time working and training as a model at Mademoiselle Modeling School.  She truly enjoyed her years in Connecticut until becoming a wife and deciding to relocate to Germany with her husband.  She spent years in Germany and travelling to other countries, such as Italy and France.  After two years of marriage, Geraldine added a new title by becoming a mother of twins, Regina M. Gomes, who preceded her in death and David F. Gomes II.  She returned to the States and first settled in Stockton, California.  She always said she had never seen fruit so beautiful before.  After a brief stay in California, she traveled across the country and settled in Hampton, Virginia where she gave birth to her son, Timothy E. Gomes, who proceeded her in death and her daughter Natasha L. Gomes.  She dedicated her life to raising her children.  Geraldine had a passion for sports and would always say she could watch any sport, except Golf.  While in Hampton, Virginia Geraldine worked for the federal government at Langley Air Force Base.  After 37 years of service, she decided to retire in 2009 as Chief Editor in Publications.  She truly enjoyed the important work she completed and even continued friendships with co-workers until her end.  After retirement Geraldine moved back home to Wilson, North Carolina where she lived until January 2022.  Geraldine finally decided to relocate back to California where she lived out her final days.

Geraldine leaves to cherish her memories two children, David F. Gomes II (Stacey) and Natasha L. Gomes, six grandchildren, Timian Mallory, Da’vid Gomes, Jeremiah Reid, DeJonta Gomes, Regena Gomes and Cai Gomes.  She also leaves a grand-fur baby, Cupcake, who she used to fight over the couch with every day.  She has four great-grandchildren, Angel Childs, Chanel Gomes, Aries Gomes and Anika Gomes that she loved very much.  Geraldine also leaves four sisters, Margaret Moore, Devora Ruffin, Jesse Ward and Melva Vines, an Aunt Nannie Brown Dixon, along with a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
