Born to George Grayson and Asrine Bell on February 18,1926 in St. Francisville, LA, she was the youngest of four children. She spent her formative years in Baton Rouge, LA, where the indomitable spirit of the Grayson and Bell families nurtured the phenomenal woman Geneva grew to be and modeled for those who were blessed to know her.
Geneva's proudest moments in Baton Rouge were the arrival of each of her four children: Larry, Clayborne III, Beverly, and Jennifer, only comparable to her decision to give her life to the Lord. She left Baton Rouge for California, joining her sister, mother, and brother in the Los Angeles area where she pursued her professional calling, becoming a registered nurse. Geneva graduated college with a degree in nursing, practicing until her retirement.
Seeking the Lord and working in his service, she joined Crenshaw Christian Center under the leadership of Dr. Frederick K.C. Price. While at Crenshaw Christian Center, Geneva served in the Helps ministries: counseling those seeking a relationship with Jesus and caring for those grieving the loss of their loved ones. She later graduated from the Crenshaw Christian Center School of the Ministry and was ordained a minister of the Gospel.
Geneva had a flair for all things fashion: designing, sewing, and crafting amazing clothing pieces that earned her the reputation of fashion diva. She loved spending hours in fabric stores, selecting the perfect buttons, trims, and fabrics to bring her designs to life. Capping off her creations with the perfect high heels well into her 80's and kitten heels into her 90's embodied the way she lived her life- on her terms.
Geneva was never confined to the ordinary. She explored the continents of Africa and Europe and lived and ministered in India for several years. She left California to permanently settle in Northern Virginia where she joined Heritage Fellowship church under the leadership of Paster Norman Tate, actively participating in Bible Study and the Yesterday's Teens ministry. She was a beloved 'mother' of the church.
If you were fortunate enough to enjoy Geneva's quick wit, savvy turn of a phrase, and compassionate ear, then your life was made a tad bit better for it. Her family will miss her greatly. Her legacy is settled but her story doesn't end. It lives on in those who will forever love her.
Geneva is predeceased by her Father- George Grayson, her Mother- Asrine Bell, her siblings- Carl, Eddie, and Lillian, and her daughter-in-law Priscilla.
Geneva is survived by her children, Larry, Clayborne III (wife Karol), Beverly (husband Terry), and Jennifer, her grandchildren- Jenovea, Holly (husband Lawrence Jr.), Larry II (partner Mandy), Courtney, John (wife Brianna), Elijah (wife Chastacey), and Clayborne IV (wife Ashley), her great grandchildren -Rickia, Lawrence III, Swai, Rhys, Joshua, Kennedy, Calista, Anyla Marie, Isabellah, Grace, Sydney, Lily, Lauren Amelie, Larry III, Lennox, John II, Clayborne V, her great great grandson- Kayden, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
