Freddie Gordan Obituary

Freddie Ross Gordan of Moreno Valley, California, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Veterans' Administration Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.

Born September 20, 1943, in Elmwood, Mississippi to Samuel Mullett Gordon and Clara McGee. He was the eldest of seven, who from a young age, was known for his quiet strength, kindness, and deep faith. He accepted Christ as his Savior at age seven, a foundation that guided his entire life from that point on.

Freddie attended Shirley Owens Vocational High School in Quitman, Mississippi where he distinguished himself through several academic accomplishments, graduating at the young age of seventeen. His passion for sports drove him and he earned the position of quarterback on the varsity football team. High school was a special place for him. It was there where he met and courted his sweetheart, Mary Helen Nelson, who would become the love of his life. Although life took them in different directions for a time, they later reunited and eventually married on August 25, 2007 and lived happily together for the rest of his life.

In his career, Freddie proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing a full tour in Vietnam with honor and courage. After receiving an honorable discharge from military service, he returned home and continued his dedication to hard work in several roles. He was employed by Ford Motor Company and Ralston Purina before accepting employment at Fernald Uranium as an engineer, where he worked and ultimately retired after 25 years. His commitment, integrity, and work ethic left a lasting impression on all who worked alongside him.

One of the greatest joys of Freddie's life was being a proud and devoted father. He cherished his children deeply: Sam Mullett Gordon (deceased), Rosalyn Ann Gaines, and Freddie Ross Gordon, Jr. Simply being present in their lives and watching them grow into the adults they became brought him more happiness than words could express. Later in Freddie's life, his heart expanded even more when he gained two bonus sons: Anthony and Sedrick Spencer. He loved them as his own, pouring wisdom and unwavering support into their lives. To all his children, he was a steady guide, a source of strength, and a true example of unconditional love.

Some of our most favorite memories of Freddie include seeing the joy on his face while cheering on some of his favorite teams (the Los Angeles Lakers, Cincinnati Reds, and the Cincinnati Bengals.) His excitement was contagious, and watching games with him was alwàys a special time. He had a deep love for good food and never passed up the chance to enjoy cooking delicious barbecue or frying fish when surrounded by family and friends. He found peace and purpose in the outdoors, especially when fishing or hunting, which brought him closer to nature and to God.

In his humble and faithful service to the Lord, Freddie was a devoted parishioner of World Deliverance Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. After relocating to California, he became a dedicated and active member of Amos Temple CME (Christian Methodist Episcopal) Church in Riverside, under Rev. Julio Andujo. There he served with passion and purpose as President of the Trustee Board, a proud member of the Male Choir, Men to Men ministry, and a committed participant in many church auxiliaries and activities.

Freddie was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Mullet Gordon; his beloved son, Sam Mullet Gordon; his brothers Jerry Evans, Mike Evans, and George Evans; and his sister, Judy Plummer. Though gone before him, their spirits are now and forever joined in the presence of the Lord.

His inspirational life will always be cherished by those he leaves behind, including his devoted wife of seventeen years, Mary Helen Spencer-Gordan; mother, Clara McGee; children: Rosalyn Ann Gaines (Chris), and Freddie Ross Gordon Jr. (Selena), Anthony Spencer and Sedrick Spencer; brothers: Jimmy Ray Gordon and Johnny Gordon; uncle George McGee; grandchildren; many godchildren; and a large circle of extended family and friends touched by his love, wisdom, and constant presence.
