First and foremost, our family would like to thank everyone for honoring Donrita one last time. Your love and support mean the world to us.
Donrita was a devoted daughter, sister, sister-in-law, auntie, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, wife, and friend. She was born on October 10, 1955, to Wilbert and Helen Jacobs in Lynwood, CA. She began her early education there before moving to Santa Ana, CA, in 1964. She graduated from Santa Ana Valley High School, attended college, and set out to build a life full of love and purpose.
Upon returning from Africa, Donrita dedicated 35 years of service at Metropolitan State Hospital, where she built lasting friendships and an extended family. She started as a Psychiatric Technician Assistant and worked her way up to Licensed Senior Psychiatric Technician Shift Lead. Her passion for caring for others was evident, and her warmth left a lasting impact on those she worked with. She retired in 2018 and later relocated to Louisiana for a short time before returning to California in 2022.
Above all, Donrita was a loving and engaged mother and grandmother. She cherished every moment with her children—Wacira, Adesola (Edward), and Eric (April)—and her beloved grandchildren—AJ, Kiana, Aaron, and Deirdre.
She was the sixth of nine siblings and shared deep bonds with her brothers and sisters: Wilbert (Diane), Eric (Josie), Greg (Pam), Leon, Cora, and Kim (Butch). She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister Antoinette, and brother Rene.
To her grandchildren, "Grandma Donnie" was more than just a grandmother—she was a source of endless joy, adventure, and treats. Whether it was late-night runs for fries and milkshakes, Friday afternoons at the trampoline park, or Walmart snack runs at 1 or 2 a.m. with her sidekick Aaron, she made every moment special. The memories she created—filled with laughter, love, and small but meaningful traditions—will live on in our hearts forever.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends.
A special thank you to April, her daughter-in-law, for her unwavering commitment, love, and care. Your kindness and dedication meant everything.
We love you, Donrita. You will always be in our hearts.
